Preview : Al Nassr vs Al Taawoun
Defending champions Al-Nassr welcome Al-Taawoun to Al-Awwal Park as they attempt to preserve their perfect start to the 2026/27 Saudi Pro League season. Ange Postecoglou’s side lead the standings after collecting nine points from their opening three matches, while scoring an impressive ten goals.
Al-Taawoun travel to Riyadh searching for their first league victory of the campaign. The visitors have collected only two points from three games following draws against Al-Khaleej and Al-Fayha and a 3-2 defeat to Al-Kholood. This gives Al-Taawoun a difficult challenge against the league’s most in-form team.
Al-Nassr displayed tremendous character in their previous match, recovering from two goals down to defeat Al-Ettifaq 3-2 despite playing with ten men from the 12th minute following Bento’s red card. Abdulelah Al-Amri scored before Sadio Mané struck twice to complete the remarkable comeback. Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted at halftime as his fitness continues to be carefully managed following his return from the World Cup, but he could receive more minutes against Al-Taawoun. João Félix, Ângelo, Kingsley Coman and Mané have given Postecoglou numerous attacking options, allowing Al-Nassr to play with speed and constant pressure around the opposition penalty area.
Al-Taawoun have been competitive without producing enough goals. They controlled much of their recent goalless draw against Al-Fayha and created numerous opportunities, but their finishing prevented them from securing three points. Abderrazak Hamdallah will be their main attacking threat against his former club, with Nedim Bajrami and Mohammed Al-Kuwaykibi expected to support him. The visitors will probably defend compactly and attempt to counterattack whenever Al-Nassr’s full-backs move forward. However, surviving sustained pressure from Al-Nassr for the entire match will be difficult, especially if Mané, Félix and Ronaldo are given space near the penalty area.
Bento will be suspended after his dismissal against Al-Ettifaq, while Sultan Al-Ghannam is reportedly unavailable through injury. Al-Taawoun currently have no major confirmed absences. The most recent meeting between these clubs ended in a 1-0 Al-Nassr victory, while Al-Nassr also recorded an emphatic 5-0 win away to Al-Taawoun earlier in the 2025/26 season.

Al-Taawoun could frustrate the hosts during the opening stages, but Al-Nassr’s attacking quality and superior squad depth should eventually decide the contest. The champions are expected to dominate possession, create the clearer chances and secure their fourth consecutive league victory.

The Saudi Pro League, officially known as the Roshn Saudi League for sponsorship purposes, is the highest level of professional football in Saudi Arabia. The country’s first unified national top-flight championship was held during the 1976/77 season, when eight clubs competed for the title. Al-Hilal finished above Al-Nassr to become the inaugural champions, beginning what would develop into one of the most successful periods achieved by any club in Asian football. Over the following decades, the competition expanded, adopted a more professional structure and produced historic rivalries involving clubs such as Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Shabab and Al-Ettifaq.
The modern Saudi Pro League consists of 18 clubs competing across a 34-match season. Every team faces each opponent twice—once at home and once away—with three points awarded for a victory and one for a draw. The club finishing at the top of the table is crowned Saudi champion, while the leading sides can qualify for major continental competitions such as the AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League Two. At the opposite end of the standings, the lowest-placed teams are relegated to the Saudi First Division League. Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli have enjoyed major periods of domestic success, while clubs such as Al-Shabab, Al-Ettifaq, Al-Taawoun and Al-Qadsiah have frequently challenged the established powers. Matches between the leading Riyadh and Jeddah clubs regularly attract enormous attention, with fixtures such as Al-Nassr versus Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad versus Al-Ahli considered among the most intense rivalries in Middle Eastern football.
